Nick Bester – Founder of Best Athletics Running Club (registered with England Athletics), Head Coach of Best Athletics, Online Running Coach and Adidas London Captain. Certified Running Leader with England Athletics, Certified Coach in Running Fitness with England Athletics.
Nick is 34 years old and a full-time running coach, athlete, and founder of Best Athletics, one of the fastest growing clubs in the UK with well over 500 members and 9 coaches. He is also the Adidas London Captain. He is a passionate runner, looking to improve and help as many fellow runners as he can on his journey. Nick has 100 000 followers across his social media platforms.

When Nick first started running, he did not enjoy it one bit! It was so much effort for such little reward. Every km was a slog and he couldn’t believe people actually choose to do this and have fun doing it. His first ever 5k was over 25 minutes. However, after completing his first race, he finally started getting fitter and started enjoying running more.
Nick is now at the stage where he depends on running and believes that very few things are sweeter in life than a PB and nothing in the world beats that endorphin release that running gives you – NOTHING!

Nick has run over 70 consecutive sub 3 marathons. His current PB’s are:

  • Marathon: 2:20:08
  • Half Marathon: 1:06:19
  • 10k: 30:46
  • 5k: 14:34

Aaron Finn (SENr, MSc, BSc, UKAD, PN1)

Performance Nutritionist & Founder of Conscious Performance
A coach, but more importantly, an athlete too. An athlete who has suffered at the hands of miss information and confusion around nutrition and fuelling performance!

“This is why I do what I do. I’ve been where you are right now. I’ve been in that situation where I didn’t know the solution. I made the decision to get educated, but that still wasn’t enough. I still had to suffer through health setbacks, injuries, and performance plateaus. Through, years of consistent work, dedication and sacrifice, I have built the knowledge and skills needed to overcome my own performance problems.
So, this little fire in me, a passion to help other athletes overcome issues that might have persisted with them through their entire career and maybe in some cases could of stopped them from competing or enjoying their sports.”

Aaron helps endurance athletes who are struggling with not knowing how to fuel their training, not knowing how to adapt their nutrition to their competition to their goals their demands. He works with athletes who are completely unsure of and unaware of how to start tacking their diet, fine tune things on race day in terms of plans, techniques and strategies.

Since moving to London, running has been Luke’s primary focus both as a sport and as a physio. He has completed several half marathons & recently completed his first marathon in Valencia in 2:57.

Amie Walker: BSc Exercise and Sport Science – Coaching Assistant

Sport of any and every kind has always played a huge part in my life, with running the pinnacle of my passion. Nothing else in the world makes me feel as alive and invigorated as running does, especially back where I grew up in North Devon along the coastal paths of the South West!

Running allows me to feel grounded in times of uncertainty, challenges me to be tough when I am feeling weak and takes me to places I never thought I could go. Running is what fills me with joy, keeps me smiling and keeps me positive. The pure love to move one foot after the other has led me to develop into a running coach for Best Athletics adding to my already established degree in Sport and Exercise Science.

I also work full time for Best Athletics which has opened up so many incredible opportunities and involvement with marketing, social media, planning events, help organise our own race series, coaching track sessions, merchandise, website designs, newsletters and so much more!

Having originally come from an athletics background, competing in 800m, 1500m and Cross Country, since moving to London and joining Best Athletics I have spent my time competing in half marathons. My personal highlight being the Barcelona Half Marathon in February 2023 where I finished in a time of 01:23:19, qualifying me for a championship entry to the London Marathon 2024. I strongly believe to become the fastest and strongest runner you need to be able to excel and perform in an array of distances. I achieved my 5km (18:16) and 10km (38:35) PB following my half marathon build. I also love the cross training side of training which has inspired me to complete my first Ironman in Austria in September!

If you haven’t already noticed, fitness is my life, it’s what consumes me and beyond running I engage in cycling, swimming, strength training and all things yogi (and yes that includes meditation and a whole food plant-based diet…)

Testimonials

“There's always someone who pushes you to be the best. These words really sum up Nick and the Best Athletics club. It's been a year since Nick popped up on my Instagram and I asked him to be my coach - one of the top decisions of my life. How amazing a year makes - couldn't do 5km under 25mins and now edging towards sub 21mins and finally secured a Good for Age qualification for the London Marathon 2023.

Motivated, positive and just an all-round fantastic person, Nick truly knows running! He has his own mammoth dreams that he works towards and it's so very inspiring to be around someone who isn't afraid to believe and put in the hard work. I think he should be an Olympian! What's it like having Nick as a coach and being surrounded by the loveliest cheerleaders (and some damn fast runners) in Best Athletics? Bloody wonderful!"
Kay Burnett
“I joined Nicks team and Best Athletics in July 2020, 8 weeks before I was due to race London Marathon. I’d been a keen runner for a while but found my progress towards a sub 3 hour marathon hitting a plateau, alongside struggling to hold myself accountable to my training. Nick has been able to provide a personalised structure, varied sessions and calculated progression whilst holding me accountable to my training. He is always on hand to answer questions, tweak plans to my schedule week by week and offer his expertise to help take my running to the next level.

I ran a 2:55 time at Brighton in September coming 42nd in one of the UK’s biggest marathons alongside hitting a whole host of PBs and personal goals since. I have not looked back. I’m now working with Nick towards some big goals in 2022 at Rome and London marathons this year where I hope to reach well below a 2:50 marathon time. As well as being a dedicated running coach, Nick’s attitude towards hard work and achieving goals is a solid example to follow in all walks of life.

Alongside his personal coaching, he has also created a really inclusive club environment full of fantastic people that I am now really proud to be a part of. “For anyone thinking about taking their running more seriously, take the jump and be your best with Nick and the team at Best Athletics.”
Dan Barratt
“I joined Nick and Best Athletes in May 2022 as I wanted to start improving myself as a runner.I then decided to go to Nick and asked for more coaching in July and was the best decision I’ve made. Having done 5k times in 21 minutes and 10k in 42 minutes. 4 months later and I’m now doing 5k in 18 minutes and 10k in 38 minutes.

Nick has made me feel so confident as a runner and want to keep improving myself to get new personal best times. He’s always there to answer my questions and support me when necessary. Nick is the best coach and I would 100% recommend going to him and the best athletes.
Once again, thank you Nick.”
James Ruhl
“Having Nick as your coach is less about having someone to hold you accountable and more about having someone who instils so much passion for running within you, that you no longer need someone to hold you accountable!
I challenge you to find someone with as much positivity about running (and life!) as Nick does. I've been coached by Nick for one year and I have PB’d over the 5km, 10km, half marathon and marathon, but more importantly I have never felt as passionate about running as I do now."
Emma Grencis
“Nick’s coaching makes you feel like a local legend of the world. Somehow he has mastered the perfect combination of tough ass plans that also encourage you and make you believe you can do anything you set out to achieve.
He has given me confidence and motivation to smash my targets; who would have thought 2 years on from my first marathon and joining Nick’s coaching I could improve my marathon time from 4hrs 34 at London 2019 to 2hrs 52 at Valencia 2021! A huge yes from me, a plan I can genuinely stick to and want to stick to, the perfect balance between challenge and reward.”
Anya CullingCulling: (Coached by Nick Bester from a 4:34 marathoner to a 2:34 marathoner in two years, earning herself an England Vest and winner of UK’s most improved runner in 2023!)
